| Chinatown YMCA Youth Programs Summer 2003 dates will be available soon. Summer Kick Off Saturday April 28th 1:00-3:00 at the Chinatown YMCA Information, games, refreshments, meet the staff, parents, and youth. Summer School Ages: 6 -13 Dates: June 11 - Aug. 3 Time: 9:00-4:00 weekdays Fee: $435.00 In summer school, students will have a half-day of academic instruction and a half-day of recreational activities. Classroom subjects will include: Math/Science, English/History, and an Elective. During recreation time, students will play cooperative games, participate in youth fitness, make arts and crafts, and interact in other supervised activities. Occasionally students will go on field trips to museums, parks, and entertainment centers. Students are assigned to age appropriate groups. Classroom staff to youth ratio is 1:15. Recreation staff to youth ratio is 1:10. Summer School classes will be located at John Yehall Elementary School. Sign up by June 1, to ensure a space for your child. Day Camp Ages: 6-13 Dates: June 11 - August 17 Time: 9:00-4:00 weekdays Fee: $85.00 per weekly session; $700.00 in full $80.00/week if you pay for 3-4 weeks $75.00/week if you pay for 5-9 weeks. Day Camp is based on the goal of giving kids a break from academics during the summer. Daily activities are designed to be exciting, fun, and stress-free (no textbooks involved). Imagination, creativity, and discovery will be encouraged. From arts and crafts to organized group games to major field trips every week, Day Camp promises to entertain. Youth are assigned to age appropriate groups. Staff to youth ratio is 1:10. Session Dates run each week through August 17th. Counselors-in-Training Ages: 14-18 Dates: June 18 - Aug. 3 Times: 9:00- 4:00 weekdays Fee: $249.00 The Counselors-in-Training (CIT) program is a leadership program for high school students. In the program students will learn how to manage and supervise large groups, how to create daily curriculum, and how to be effective youth leaders. After a two-week training period, CITs will pair up with YMCA leaders and assist them with daily activities. Evaluations, discussions groups, and personal development will continue throughout the summer. CITs will be able to attend Campference free of charge. FREE morning and afternoon care. Morning care for summer school and day camp is from 7:30 am to 9:00 am. Afternoon care is 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm. Each session is provided at no additional cost. Summer Camping Boys and Girls Camp Ages: 8 - 13 Dates: August 11 - August 18 Place: Camp Fleischmann, Chester, CA Fee: $249.00 Boys and Girls camp is a week long, over night, co-ed camp aimed at introducing kids to the great outdoors. Campers will not only learn important wilderness skills but will also learn about teamwork and character development. Some activities introduced at camp include swimming, outdoor education, back packing, archery, and arts and crafts. Camp also offers values education by the YMCA Raggers Society, an internationally recognized program that encourages growth through truth, hard work, and commitment to ones self, family and community. For over 60 years the Chinatown YMCA has been bringing boys and girls to the mountains of California to share and enjoy the great outdoors. Join us for another wonderful summer experience. Leadership Development Program (for boys and girls camp) Ages: 17-20 August 11 - August 18 Place: Camp Fleischmann, Chester, CA Fee: $249.00 In the Leadership Development Program (LDP) students learn the theory and practice of being an effective leader. LDPs will gain skills in communication, problem solving, and conflict resolution. The leadership program is integrated into the Boys and Girls camp. As LDPs learn how to become better leaders they also gain hands-on experience interacting with skilled counselors. Staff to youth ratio is 1:5. Campference Ages: 14-18 Dates: August 11 - August 18 Place: Camp Fleischmann, Chester, CA Fee: $249 Like Boys and Girls Camp, Campference is an over night co-ed wilderness camp. However, Campference is only for high school students. Outdoor activities, games, and adventures will be introduced at camp. Teens will be able to relax, hang out with friends, and enjoy the great outdoors. In addition to a wilderness experience there will also be structured discussion groups. During these sessions, real life experiences will be shared and resolved, helping teens with their personal growth and relationships. Campference has been a traditional part of the Chinatown YMCA for over 10 years. Saturday Programs Young Artist Class Instructor: Sarah Klise for ages 6 and up Dates: 8 Saturdays July 7 - August 25 Times: Beginning 12:00 - 1:30 Intermediate 1:30-3:00 Advanced 3:00-5:00 Fee: $72.00 or $9.00 per class (plus one time $5.00 materials fee) Instructor Sarah Klise has taught painting and drawing to children in Chinatown for over 14 years. In her classes students learn techniques and strategies that help them become better artists. They are introduced to a variety of mediums including pastel, ink, watercolor, charcoal, acrylic paint, and wood block printing. The artwork of Ms. Klises students has been exhibited around the country and has received both local and national attention. This is an excellent opportunity for students just beginning their artistic career or for those who are looking for more practice and guidance. Ballet Class Instructor: Rosie Lo Ages: 6 and up Dates: 8 Saturdays July 7 - August 25 Times: Advanced 10:00 - 11:00 Intermediate 11:00-12:00 Beginning 12:00-1:00 Intermediate 1:00-2:00 Fee: $72.00 or $9.00 per class Instructor Rosie Lo is a member of the National Association of Dance and Art, the Canadian Dance Teachers Association, and the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing in England. Ms. Lo has taught in Vancouver at the Ballet School for over 15 years and performed as a soloist. She has also been teaching in the Bay Area and Chinatown for 18 years. Summer Swim 2000 Ages: 6-17 Fee: $78.00 per session Dates: 2 week sessions beginning June 11 - June 22, June 25 July 6, July 9-20, July 23 - Aug 3, Aug. 6 -August 17. Times begin as early as 8:00 and continue throughout the day. The summer swim program will teach water safety and stroke development. Each half hour lesson will contain five components: skills, personal growth, rescues, values, and games. Class minimum is 3 participants. Students are taught according to their skill level.
