The Hamlin School located at 2120 Broadway in San Francisco has provided girls in the San Francisco Bay Area with the finest education possible for over 130 years. Hamlin offers a challenging academic program in an environment of encouragement and support for students from K-8. Class size is 44 girls per grade. Hamlin aims to develop the intellect, the character, and the citizenship of each girl to help her face the future with courage and confidence. Date of Admissions for Kindergarten is mid-December and for grades 1-8 mid-January. Hamlin welcomes diversity, including economic diversity. San Francisco Day School educates, nurtures and inspires girls and boys of diverse backgrounds to achieve their highest academic and creative potential, to embrace ethical values and to become active contributors to their communities. San Francisco Day School is a co-educational kindergarten through eighth grade program. Its program encourages each child to "develop a strong sense of self-esteem, respect for others and a desire to do his or her best." The academic curriculum emphasizes basic skills as well as the skills of problem solving and critical thinking. Our desire is to be an inclusive community which embraces diversity in all its forms. There is a balance between superb academics and first-rate music, art and physical education to make for a complete, well- rounded education. Go to San Francisco Day! Admission Information for San Francisco Day School Contact: Margarita Rhodes - Director of Admission. The regular admission procedure begins in the fall, a year before the child's anticipated entrance. It includes an evening open house, an optional school day tour, parent/guardian interview, and the child's visit. Interested parents should call the admission office to reserve a space at an open house. Group tours for parents are given from early October through early January. Tours are scheduled on various weekday mornings from 8:30 to 10:30. Parents visit classrooms, meet current Day School parents and participate in a question and answer session with the Head of School, the Director of Admission and the Heads of the Upper and Lower school. After an application is received, individual parent and child visits are scheduled. Parent meetings are scheduled in the fall and early winter. Children visit their current grade from mid January through mid February. Kindergarten, First and Sixth grade applicants visit as a group in late January. Applications are due in December and decision letters are mailed in March. We encourage kindergarten applicants whose fifth birthday falls before August 1st. San Francisco Day School is committed to providing tuition assistance on the basis of family need. Tuition assistance applications are mailed to all applicants. These forms must be completed and submitted by January 31.
